Canadian Tories to let Border Guards Have Guns
"It's simply a practical matter of how soon these officers can be trained and the firearms issued to them," said Vic Toews, the Conservative MP who served as justice critic in Opposition.
"That's our commitment and I trust our minister will do exactly that."
Toews said in an interview Wednesday he was bothered by news that about 20 Canadian border guards left their posts as the gunmen approached the border. . . .

Doesn't matter, I just read an article where the Canadian border guards retreated from their post. Apparently, they have a law that says no employee has to stay around if there is danger.

I understand (I noted this in my previous posting on this), but there must be some reason why the guards have been asking for guns.
If they'd only extend their reasoning to the average citizen. Might they also have to deal with dangerous criminals who wish to do them harm?
I am happy having them take one step at a time. The fact that it has been this hard to get border guards armed shows how far one really has to go on this front. I agree though that the logic is the same.
