About Me
Amazed how lucky I am that I have had jobs where I could just think about whatever I wanted to think about. This summer I will be moving to the University of Maryland. Previously I held positions at the University of Chicago, Yale University, Stanford, UCLA, Wharton, and Rice and was the chief economist at the United States Sentencing Commission during 1988 and 1989. I have published over 90 articles in academic journals. I received my Ph.D. in economics from UCLA in 1984.

4 Comments:
Either party will encourage big government, and neither will have the courage to oppose the costly Iraq occupation; both are corrupt either politically or morally or both. Both have the potential to interfere with the economy and create higher prices, discuss their religious views, and neither will have any clue about practicing constitutionalism. My best option to protect myself and family from an evil worse than muggers, rapists and murderers (our government) would be to vote republican - they have the greater potential to defend gun rights - then I could at least have some firepower (and freedom) to protect myself from all the dangers created mostly by ignorant politicians.

Anonymous 5:12am:
Republicans respect gun rights? Are you sure?
1986 law that restricts ownership of machine guns made after 1986. Ronald Reagan signed that into law.
1989 law limiting import of certain "assault rifles" signed by Bush the First.
The current Bush said he'd sign a renewal of the AWB if it hit his desk. He's never vetoed a bill. Thanks goodness it didn't get that far.
Has any Republican forwarded a bill to repeal the unconstitutional 1934 National Firearms act? The unconstitutional 1968 Gun Control act? No. None, nada, zip.
Don't be certain that Republicans give a crap about your gun rights.
Both Democrats and Republicans couldn't give a rats ass about your gun rights.
The Second Amendment has been null and void for a long time. Brought to you by BOTH political parities.
Paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson: The Tree of Liberty is THIRSTY.
I agree, but I wrote: ",,,they have the greater potential to defend gun rights..."

Republicans may have problems from time to time, but they are much, much better than the democrats and your list is extremely selective and gives the wrong impression. 1) Reagan also eliminated some regulations on guns. 2) You mention Republicans not getting rid of the 1934 or 1968 laws, but they did get rid of the assault weapons ban a couple of years ago and they also cut back on many of the bad ways that the Brady Law was being enforced (retaining information and ending the constant breakdowns in the system).
