What is happening with gun crime in South Africa
Estimates of the number of illegal firearms in South Africa vary between 1 and 4 million, he said, but the real problem was from some 30,000-40,000 hardcore criminals using a small number of illegal guns.
South Africa began a firearms amnesty on January 1 that to date has netted about 13,000 weapons, but critics say most of the weapons handed in are old and would never have been used for crime.
"It's mostly been grannies and grandpas that are handing in weapons that are probably unusable anyhow," Willmers said. . . . .

;) Well, we're all up against this kind of nonsense you know; the more criminals use guns (effectively) the more the government wants to ban them from peaceful, law-abiding citizens. So, by now most people should know the government wants to empower criminals and de-power the rest of us, that way it can more easily victimize us. In other words the government needs help from criminals to more effectively control the masses. And it knows that criminals are a reliable source.
For some reason, the article linked to from this story is one at the NY Sun about Bloomberg, not about crime in South Africa...
