As someone whose kids were homeschooled, I think that she is correct about this:
Two things that those on the far left who support big government cannot abide by are private gun ownership and homeschooling – and largely for the same reason. . . .

Good point.
But I think it mostly has to do with their underlying worldview that the individual can be improved if the environment is improved. Education as a means to social engineering was started by Horace Mann.
Gun control is similar...after all, there wouldn't be any gun crime if there were no guns, right? Because those things just cause their possessors to become possessed by them, right?
Everything is against individual responsibility.
