Daily Kos compares Terrorists to Americans in the American Revolutionary War
A post by a Democratic Congressional candidate on the leftwing Daily Kos website compares terrorists in Iraq to Americans in the American Revolutionary War. I can give you one obvious difference: the popularly elected Iraqi government is begging for American help in fighting these terrorists.
It is important to distinguish between the militia, or death squads and the resistance, particularly when considering the amnesty aspects of the Reconciliation Plan crafted in Cairo last month. Over 95% of the Iraqi people oppose the presence of the U.S. troops in their country and consider the people the U.S. call "insurgents" to be patriotic freedom fighters -- no different that how we look at the people who fought in our Revolutionary War. Heroic titles go to the victors and if justice is to ever come to the people of Iraq, the people we call insurgents will have to be recognized as the ones who are actually defending their homeland. . . . .

From what I hear the elections were rigged by the Bush administration to avoid the following: Many members of the Iraqi government are theocrats; some are pro-Iran; some are doing all they can to support the insurgency; some are corrupt; some are US puppets (and Iraqis know it.) It is the furthest thing from a democracy or a democratically elected government. And it has nothing to do with freedom here; our freedom (at least mine) is supposed to be guaranteed in writing in the Bill of Rights and in the Preamble, in the Declaration of Independence and in the US Constitution (nothing there about conducting war on foreign soil for our freedom.)
I have always considered the troublemakers, terrorists, and insurgents (in Iraq) to be Arab patriots. I could never kill innocent non-combatants or children, but I identify with people like Zarqouwi, but I could never commit a suicidal act - I identify with his patriotic fervor - and I respect his willingness to die fighting for his beliefs and country (because I believe in fighting for my country if it is invaded).
Ethnocentric Americans can't understand this, and can't, or don't believe our government was the cause for 9/11. Too many Americans believe so-called terrorists attacked because they hate our freedoms and our "rock and roll." They (Arab patriots) attacked because of a prolonged US diplomatic and military presence (occupation) in the Middle East.
I agree with Daily Kos (whatever that is): so-called terrorists in the Middle East are similar to our Revolutionaries. And the US is an unwanted, illegal occupying and terrorizing force in Iraq, and is responsible for the thousands of deaths of Iraqi children. They remind me of the Nazi military lead by Adolf Hitler.
Good grief, how long ago was it that Michael Moore compared terrorists to our historical Minutemen? And Kos just caught up? Not only is he an idiot, he's a pathetically slow one.
I wouldn't go so far to say our Minutemen were the type to butcher their enemies children or their women. Minutemen were the type of patriots that loved their country enough to be willing to die fighting for it, and hated it's government enough to know it was the right thing to do to take up arms against it. George Washington led the greatest armed revolt against the rule of law and won. And when they finished they wrote laws (the Bill of Rights)that are now being ignored by another ruler who has forgotten or never learned that it was Hitler who convinced the Reichstag (the German parliament) to suspend civil liberties so that he could wage a war against terrorists that had firebombed the Parliament. Bush knows no history of this country or of Germany. That is why some of us are calling him a dictator and why we must call the Arabs who fight in Iraq Arab patriots.
